Dear Tulane Community:
This Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C. I ask you to join me at 9 a.m. on September 9 to observe a moment of silence for the lives lost that day, for the protection of our troops and for peace in our troubled world.
I also ask that you attend Saturday’s football game in the Superdome. All first responders in uniform and uniformed members of our military will be admitted free to the game and will be brought onto the field for a pre-game ceremony in their honor. The fire truck the New Orleans Fire Department sent to New York to help in the aftermath of the attacks will also be on the field. The Tulane Marching Band and 10 local high school marching bands will perform patriotic songs acknowledging the freedoms we all enjoy.
On Sunday, the actual anniversary of the attacks, we will fly all flags on campus at half-staff.
These small but important acts will allow us to pay tribute to those who lost their lives 10 years ago, those who sacrificed their lives to rescue who they could and those whose sacrifices continue today.
