Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans – May 21, 2009

May 21, 2009

Dear Tulane Alumni and Friends,

I am writing you with another Call to Action and an update on the status of House Bill 830, which would transfer ownership, governance and management of the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans (MCLNO) to two new boards — one for ownership, the other to operate and manage MCLNO, effective January 2010. The ownership board will be solely comprised of independent directors, while the other board will have a mixture of independent and university members.

We are very pleased that House Bill 830, authored by House Speaker Jim Tucker, passed both the House Health and Welfare committee and the full House by unanimous votes earlier this week.

The bill now moves to the Senate Health and Welfare Committee for a vote, which has yet to be scheduled. It will then move to a vote by the full Senate.

My CALL TO ACTION:

1. Visit http://all4NOLA.com, a new website developed by Tulane that has information on House Bill 830 and why New Orleans needs a unified academic medical center.

2. At the website, fill out the form that will automatically e-mail the appropriate state senators with your support for House Bill 830.

3. On Tuesday, May 26, visit http://all4NOLA.com for compelling and succinct information to refute the erroneous and misleading talking points being circulated about Tulane and HB 830.

Sincerely,

Scott S. Cowen
President
